Report: Ryan Fraser tells friends he wants Spurs move this summer

Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser has told friends that he is keen to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to Football Insider.

What does the report say?

Fraser has impressed on the South coast since arriving in 2013, managing 24 goals and 33 assists in 208 appearances for the Cherries.

The 26-year-old is out of contract this summer and is said to have attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

According to Football Insider, the winger has told friends that he is keen on a move to Spurs, with the Scot hoping to test himself in the Champions League.

The North London club currently have a number of talented wingers including Lucas Moura, Heung-Min Son and Steven Bergwijn, but it is understood that Erik Lamela could be sold.

Wrong move

Fraser is a talented player that has impressed at Bournemouth in recent seasons and could provide value this summer on a free transfer.

However, Spurs are already well-stocked on the wings and should be focusing their attention elsewhere.

The Scot has only registered one goal and four assists this season and would likely find himself behind Moura, Son and Bergwijn if he made the switch.

Ex-Everton player Tim Cahill makes joke about Phil Neville

Tim Cahill covered a wide range of topics in his recent Twitter Q&A, from the best opponents he played with to which player he’d most want to self-isolate with, while there was also a touch of typical cheekiness. The forward spent eight years at Goodison Park and created some great memories, such as finishing fourth and reaching an FA Cup final, and he likely holds his former teammates in high esteem. That doesn’t mean he isn’t afraid to make jokes at their expense, however, and picked out Phil Neville for mockery in response to one fan’s question. It is an interesting insight into the dynamics that must have existed under David Moyes during that period, when the Toffees were often challenging for a top four spot.

The former Australia international may be feeling brave because he knows his former teammate isn’t on Twitter, or perhaps he is just speaking the truth.

Either way, it is a funny remark and suggests the squad got along well and still share a good relationship to this day, which may be why they were relatively successful during Cahill’s spell at the club.

Newcastle fans hail Allan Saint-Maximin for latest performance

A number of Newcastle United fans have taken to social media to lavish praise on the performance of Allan Saint-Maximin in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth.

The 22-year-old is still waiting for his first goal for the club but there is no getting away from the fact that he contributed to his team’s 2-1 win over the Cherries.

According to WhoScored, before being replaced in the final exchanges, Saint-Maximin had two shots, completed four successful dribbles and made two tackles.

He is a threat with his pace and power even if the end product isn’t always there.

And many of the Newcastle fans were impressed with the performance of the attacker, who scored 11 times in 74 games for Nice ahead of a switch to St James’ Park.

Things are starting to look up at Newcastle courtesy of back-to-back wins, and the club’s supporters seem to have found a new hero.

A selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:

Gary Neville defends Spurs amid criticism of the club’s poor run of form

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Gary Neville has praised Tottenham for what they have achieved in recent years and suggested they have been unfairly criticised of late.

What did he say?

Tottenham have come under fire recently due to their bad run of form, with some suggesting that the players’ unhappiness with Mauricio Pochettino’s training regime has created unrest and contributed to their downfall.

However, considering the comparative transfer budgets and wage structures between Spurs and the rest of the top six, it is fair to say that they have overachieved in the last few years, albeit without winning a trophy.

As a result, Neville is choosing to look at the bigger picture, and doesn’t believe a few poor results should create media hysteria over the way Spurs approach their wage structure.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Super Sunday, he said:

“This team has eight times in the last ten seasons finished above Liverpool, it’s got to a Champions League final, it’s been run really well for quite a long time. They’ve played so well for four or five years this team.

“I don’t think they can go and pay the wages or wouldn’t pay the wages and that’s a decision that they’ve made as a football club and I don’t think we can sit here and criticise it.

“They either keep the players and let them run their contracts down or they cash in, they get criticised both ways.”

Breath of fresh air

Although they were busy in their recruitment over the summer by usual standards, various players continue to be linked to the club as possible solutions to help them pick up their form, including the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Nathan Ferguson and Max Aarons.

The chairman, Daniel Levy, brought in several multi-million-pound signings over the summer in Ryan Sessegnon, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso [who is yet to join permanently] despite the huge cost of the new stadium.

The summer spending spree was something of an anomaly in the context of Spurs’ recent windows, but the club have remained competitive during a tedious financial balancing act period.

They have had a lot of joy from their academy, too, and Levy and Pochettino collectively took the club to the verge of European glory.

Neville suggests that the club shouldn’t be criticised for their wage structure and the manner in which they deal with players, and considering some of the astronomical salaries that are being paid, it is easy to understand why the Sky pundit sympathises with the refreshing approach.

Everton fans are finally starting to show the love for Theo Walcott

Everton fans have taken to Twitter to express their admiration for Theo Walcott, which has not happened much since his £20m signing from Arsenal in 2018.

The love for Walcott comes after he had one of his best performances in an Everton shirt when the club beat West Ham United 2-0. The Englishman was pivotal in the win, assisting Bernard’s goal and claiming the highest rating on the pitch at 8.1, as per WhoScored.

The forward was a thorn in Manuel Pellegrini’s side all afternoon and came desperately close to recording one of the goals of the season in the second half. Walcott smashed a volley from distance and rattled the crossbar, as keeper Roberto was clearly beaten.

Fans are now heaping the praise on the 30-year-old and are hoping that he continues in this current form. Some supporters have claimed he is back to his best, whilst others are suggesting he can “help get us back up that table”.

These kind and positive words from Everton supporters are in stark contrast to the constant criticism he has received since his arrival. However, this time around, fans are finally showing their love for the forward and here’s what some have had to say…

Birmingham boss Pep Clotet doing a good job, claims journalist

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

It’s never too early to start talking about the managerial hot seat.

With manager’s never too far away from the sack in the modern game, and given Birmingham City’s history when it comes to managers, you can never be too sure how safe Pep Clotet is in his job.

What’s he said?

Speaking during a Q&A on Birmingham Live, before the Blackburn Rovers game, journalist Brian Dick says that he believed Clotet was doing enough to keep the board members on his side, and that he doesn’t believe he’ll be ‘in the firing line’ any time soon:

“He’s been given a very difficult job, challenge for promotion, with a new style and young players. I think you’d have to say given the upheaval he’s doing OK.”

“As regards the firing line, show me a Blues manager that hasn’t been for the last few years. I hope not, he’s an interesting guy to listen to who clearly knows his football.”

Managing expectations

As Dick mentions, the upheaval that took place in the summer with the sudden departure of Garry Monk, as well as the dangling Sword of Damocles that was their Financial Fair Play misconduct last season, it would have left any manager in charge somewhat handcuffed when it came to doing their job this campaign.

With a poll in September among Birmingham City fans on Twitter giving an indication of what the majority of supporter’s expectations were this term, many believed they’ll be a lower mid-table team.

Thus, it is somewhat baffling to see the Birmingham faithful constantly calling for Clotet to be sacked.

Fans need to be a little calmer when it comes to results and performances this season.

This campaign should always have been about stability and getting the skeleton of a side in place during the first two transfer windows, then using that as a way of building towards something next season.

Birmingham aren’t in any position to be challenging for promotion just yet, so fans need to lower their expectations. If results like these continue into next season, then there will be cause for concern. But just like Jude Bellingham, the best is yet to come.

West Ham should give Fornals a regular run in the team to get him playing his best

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

West Ham have got off to a good start to the season with only two defeats in eight league games, but the success of their summer signings has so far been mixed.

Sebastien Haller has gained plaudits for his all-round play and his return of four goals in seven league matches suggests he is adjusting well to to England, unlike Pablo Fornals.

The Spaniard arrived from Villarreal in the summer with a degree of expectation due to being described by Manuel Pellegrini as a “talented player”, his transfer fee of £24m, and some impressive performances in the U21 European Championship – but he is yet to find his feet at the Hammers.

The 23-year-old managed five goals and six assists in the last campaign but he is yet to show quality in the final third this time around. He only has one shot per game to show for his efforts, and is still without a goal or assist.

Watch West Ham United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Equally worrying are the signs that he is yet to get up to the speed of the Premier League.

He has achieved a rate of just 0.4 key passes and 0.5 successful dribbles per game, which is nowhere near good enough if he is to displace one of Manuel Lanzini, Felipe Anderson or the in-form Andriy Yarmolenko, who has three goals in seven league games.

Further evidence of that fact is his average of 18 passes per game. His lack of contribution will do little to persuade Pellegrini that he is deserving of a starting place and if the struggle to adapt continues then he could run out of time to impress.

By comparison, Anderson and Lanzini boast average pass stats of 51 and 45 respectively, and even with them in the side West Ham have only managed 11 goals in eight matches.

Despite that, Fornals needs a regular run in the side – even if it is of short-term detriment to the team.

Lanzini is not at the top of his game currently, offering only one assist in seven matches, and giving Fornals the responsibility to create and score goals from his favoured position could do him a great deal of good.

It will allow him game time to adjust to the league’s intensity, create an understanding with his teammates and settle at a new club where being in and out of the side could be damaging his morale.

If he is able to build in all of the above aspects then his quality should show and he may begin reproducing the consistent displays he showed in Spain, and the Hammers could certainly benefit from the 1.3 key passes he achieved last year.

Real Madrid fans in meltdown over prospect of signing Kylian Mbappe

After a rather lacklustre 2019 summer transfer window in which they only signed one genuine global star in the form of Eden Hazard, Real Madrid could be poised to get more reinforcements in the not so distant future.

At least, that’s what their president, Florentino Perez, implied when talking to AS just recently.

He said that there is a certain French player Los Blancos really like and that they will go for him.

Watch Spanish Football Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Naturally, only two players come to many fans’ minds: Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe. And while Perez hasn’t revealed the mysterious player in question, many of the fans have concluded it has to be Mbappe and they definitely want him to join.

Some even state how the 20-year-old star is destined to come to Real Madrid and that the white kit of the Galacticos really would suit him.

One way or the other, they seem to expect “madness” from Perez in the upcoming transfer windows.

Take a look behind the curtain at England's 1966 triumph in rare photos

The year of 1966 remains the greatest year in English footballing history.

Victory over West Germany in the final, 4-2 after extra time, is the biggest, most famous, most memorable game in the country’s long-standing relationship with the beautiful game and until it is achieved again will remain that way.

Everyone has seen the iconic photo of Bobby Moore being held aloft with the Jules Rimet trophy at Wembley following the triumph.

But what many people will not have seen is some of the lesser publicised photos from what was a marvelous year for the Three Lions.

This gallery looks at some of the behind-the-scenes snaps taken from that year – mainly involving the frenzy that went on during that wonderful summer in July – but also from before the tournament and what happened following the final on July 30th 1966.

And we start with the legendary Bobby Charlton taking some time out of a pre-tournament training session to relax on the grass and chat with a few idolising fans…
