SFC: Fans react to link with Danjuma

Fans of Southampton have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relayed a report that claimed Saints are interested in a summer swoop for Arnaut Danjuma.

According to a report by Football League World, sources have revealed that both Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton, as well as numerous European clubs, are closely monitoring the AFC Bournemouth forward ahead of the summer transfer window.

So far this season, the £28,000-per-week 24-year-old has highly impressed over his 25 Championship appearances for Jonathan Woodgate’s side, scoring 10 goals and registering four assists, as well as averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.13 – ranking him as the club’s best performer in the second tier.

And, after Southampton Page relayed this report on Twitter, fans of the Saints flocked to have their say on the matter, with many appearing delighted at the prospect of their club making a move for Danjuma in the summer transfer window.

So, what exactly did these Southampton fans have to say in reaction to their club’s link with a move for Arnaut Danjuma?

“Dude was their only impressive player in our game against them. He could be a good signing.”

@Zack_Benjy

“Get him in, decent player. Better then Redmond.”

@CallumSFC18

“He was their best player, needs to work on his final product but looks like he could handle himself in the Prem.”

@thesotonsaint

“Bags of potential, hope this is true.”

@CLJH4

“Yes please.”

@sfcliam_

“I BEG.”

@McrCr_

‘Thought he looked dangerous in the early stages against us at the weekend. My question is why do we persist with wingers when we never attack the space in behind the full-backs.”

Wolves eye Edmond Tapsoba transfer

This season can essentially be classed as a write-off for Wolves. They won’t achieve European football and they’re looking unlikely to secure a top-half finish too.

With that in mind, Jeff Shi better start preparing for next term.

What’s the word?

Wolves are one of a number of sides vying for the signature of Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba this summer.

That’s according to the Express, who began their report this week by stating Manchester United have placed him under their microscope after scouting him.

They suggest that Leicester and Wolves have also scouted the defender on numerous occasions but in recent days, he’s been urged to join Barcelona.

It’s thought that Liverpool also have an interest in Tapsoba, a young defender who could cost a considerable amount. Sport suggests his value is at around €40m (£34.2m), while he currently earns £37k-per-week.

Perfect for Nuno

One of the Old Gold’s biggest problems this season has been their transition between a three-man and four-man backline.

The inconsistency in rhythm it’s caused has plagued the squad and as a result, they’ve struggled this term. Their clean sheet against Leicester last month, for instance, was just their second in the league since October.

Therefore, the addition of a player like Tapsoba could be the missing piece of the jigsaw. Not only is he adept in a back four but he’s also been very capable of playing in a back three. Crucially, he usually plays as the left centre-back, the clear weakness in the Wolves defence with Willy Boly and Conor Coady on the right and in the middle.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/check-out-the-latest-news-on-wolves-from-molineux” title=” Check out the latest news on Wolves from Molineux!”]

Blessed with enormous levels of strength and pace, his ability to recover and batter opponents aside is truly eye-catching. A quick look at the statistics tells you all you need to know.

So far this term, the 22-year-old has won an impressive 2.1 aerial duels per game and produced 1.9 tackles per match. For context, no centre-back at Wolves has won more in the tackle department than Tapsoba has.

He’s a player that’s earned rave reviews and thus, it would be a big surprise if Wolves could lure him away from the likes of Liverpool and Barcelona to Molineux instead.

Germany legend and Leverkusen managing director Rudi Voller once said: “His really big potential makes Edmond Tapsoba a very interesting proposition as a player.”

Their sporting director, Simon Rolfes, added: “Edmond Tapsoba was a regular first choice at Guimaraes at the age of 20 and, in addition to his defensive ability, he’s also dangerous in front of goal.”

Because of his pace, he is able to recover incredibly quickly. Last season, the young centre-back made 13.05 recoveries per 90 minutes. For context, the highest in the Bundesliga was 16.21.

He also made 5.03 counter-pressing recoveries per 90 minutes, something that demonstrates his ability to fit into even the most demanding and intense teams.

The Burkina Faso international is clearly blessed with a lot of talent. Wolves must do as much as they can to secure his signature. He’d surely fit seamlessly into their defence.

Crystal Palace: Fans react to Romano tweet

Many Crystal Palace fans are reacting to a tweet from respected journalist Fabrizio Romano in which he discusses the likelihood of Jean-Philippe Mateta signing for the club.

Following a lot of talk about the Bundesliga forward being close to signing for the Eagles, Romano all but confirmed the rumours were true. He tweeted: ‘Jean-Philippe Mateta joins Crystal Palace on loan until 2022 with obligation to buy [around €17m] as per @domfifield, confirmed. He turned down two bids from Italian clubs and will sign for #CPFC tomorrow – medicals pending. Here-we-go soon.’

The Frenchman is 23 years-old and has been in great form this season with Mainz (WhoScored). He has played 18 times in all competitions and picked up 11 goals and one assist, with seven of these goals coming in the Bundesliga. The £13.5m-valued striker also has featured for the France U21 side in the past (Transfermarkt), scoring three goals in nine appearances. Many fans are buzzing over the news, with one calling the possible transfer ‘exciting’.

It is understandable to see why the fan base are getting excited. Strikers Christian Benteke, Jordan Ayew, and Michy Batshuayi have only scored four goals between them this season (WhoScored), so some fresh blood could be exactly what the club need to strengthen the attack and help push the Eagles up the table.

Aston Villa must swoop for talented youngster Sivert Mannsverk

When you assess Aston Villa’s season, it’s difficult to pick a gaping hole in their squad.As a result, spending in the January transfer window could be a rather limited affair for Dean Smith and Johan Lange.What’s the word?It’s been quiet on the transfer front for the Villans since the window opened. Rico Henry has continuously been linked but at long last, we have a potential incoming to report of.It won’t be a marquee addition but it will be one to provide more competition and inject further youthful exuberance into the first-team picture.That’s because according to La Lazio Siamo Noi (via Sport Witness) Aston Villa are in the hunt to sign Norwegian starlet Sivert Mannsverk.The 18-year-old has caught the eye in his homeland and is set to be available for a meagre €2m (£1.7m), but it won’t be a straightforward chase.It’s reported that Arsenal are in the race for Mannsverk’s signature, while Brighton also have an interest in the talented midfielder.Bologna and Ajax are keen but it’s Lazio who have already made contact to sign him. He has many willing suitors because of his “personality, talent, and good physique.”Forget RamseyOne of the most pleasing aspects of Villa’s season so far has been the emergence of Jacob Ramsey. The 19-year-old made his first Premier League start against Wolves last month and looked immensely comfortable, completing two dribbles and registering two shots.It was a dynamic performance that typified Ramsey, but his progress to first-team stardom could be halted if Mannsverk is signed.The teenager is already the captain of his club and has superb leadership skills, producing goals and assists in impressive numbers for his age.During 2020, he registered five goals and also provided five assists for his teammates. Capable of playing as a defensive midfielder or further forward in attacking phases, he is a versatile individual and that should stand him in good stead if he moves to England.He could also be assured that Smith would use him. This Villa squad is already particularly young, with the hierarchy prioritising bringing players to the club that they can develop, rather than individuals who are past their best.It’s a task breaking into this Villa midfield but Mannsverk has a bright future ahead of him. Whether his ceiling is higher than Ramsey’s, however, remains to be seen.AND in other news, “Dangerous” AVFC dynamo who “continues to shine” is Smith’s unsung hero…

Celtic handed transfer boost as Southampton could ditch Fraser Forster

Celtic may have been given a big boost in their pursuit of Fraser Forster after Southampton have shown interest in a new goalkeeper.

Accrington Stanley shot-stopper Toby Savin has caught the eye of the Saints, who could be looking to bolster their options between the sticks. Alex McCarthy is currently doing a grand job as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s first choice and bringing in the youngster could mean an exit for either Angus Gunn or Forster.

The Hoops will be hoping it’s the latter after enjoying having the England international back at Celtic Park on loan last season. Glasgow Live have reported that the club are keen to bring Forster back to the club.

Could Celtic sign Forster permanently?

At the moment, Neil Lennon is having a bit of a defensive nightmare. Vasilis Barkas has been dropped in favour of the elusive Scott Bain after some questionable performances. Celtic haven’t won a game since St Johnstone in the Premiership – their loss to Rangers has put the Hoops into a tough spot.

Speaking on the A Celtic State of Mind podcast, Paul John Dykes has discussed the 6’6″ powerhouse and the idea of him joining the club permanently.

“When you look at the impact that Forster had last year in particular in the League Cup final, he makes such a difference to the defence, he makes such a difference to the Celtic side under Neil Lennon,” he said.

Dykes went on to highlight the addition of Barkas, who joined the Hoops this summer for a fee of £2.9million. However, his disappointing start to life in Scotland has resulted in him being axed from the squad.

Last season, Celtic enjoyed yet another Premiership title and conceded just 19 goals with Forster in the net. They have shipped ten already this time round, despite having only played 11 games of the campaign.

With less than two years left on his current contract and valued at £4million, Nick Hammond could strike a very good deal to bring Forster back to Celtic Park for good. They will undoubtedly be keeping a close on Southampton’s business as they near the January transfer window.

Victor Orta needs to land a midfielder for Leeds

Leeds United’s transfer deadline day looks set to be an exciting with Raphinha looking likely to join the Whites in a deal worth an initial £17m.

Leeds have been after a winger for the entirety of this window with names such as Said Benrahma, Daniel James and Ryan Kent strongly linked at different points.

Now, it seems as though they have finally got their man with the Rennes wide man set to join on deadline day, but despite a winger coming in, United still need to do one more thing.

Indeed, the Whites need to bring in a midfielder after failing to secure the signature of Michael Cuisance from Bayern Munich.

Whether or not a midfielder is absolutely needed is up for debate, but the fact that United so publicly chased Cuisance and almost signed him before the deal collapsed at the 11th hour, shows that they were in the market for a midfielder, and if they don’t land one, it will be seen as a failure on Victor Orta’s part.

The cohort of Mateusz Klich, Adam Forshaw, Kalvin Phillips and Pablo Hernandez should be enough to help United towards their goals this season, but if Leeds fail to add reinforcements after a summer of pursuing options such as Rodrigo De Paul and Cuisance, they will look a bit incompetent.

Orta clearly prioritised the midfield spots as an area that needs bolstering, and if he doesn’t get his man after coming so close to signing Cuisance, he will deserve a lot of blame, despite what has otherwise been a successful transfer window.

Anything can happen on deadline day, so Leeds could still get their midfielder, but if they don’t, Orta will be due a bit of stick.
