Giovanni Reyna is a special talent who plays for Borussia Dortmund, and here are a few facts you need to know about him.

Giovanni Reyna is considered one of the USMNT's most talented players alongside Captain America, Christian Pulisic. The 20-year-old is still making headways on the global scene while also making the USMNT squad regularly.

Having already made his World Cup debut for his nation in 2022, the midfielder will be hoping to play a greater role in the future for his national team as well.

  Reyna comes from a family that has football coursing through its veins. Both of his parents are former soccer players who played for the United States men's and women's national teams. His father played almost exclusively in Germany and the UK.

• His younger brother plays with Austin II

  He has a younger brother, Josh, who is following in his elder brother's footsteps. Josh plays for Austin FC's youth team in MLS Next Pro. His father is also involved with Austin FC as their Technical Director.

• Reyna was born in England

  The midfielder was born in Sunderland in England. His family had settled in the Tyne and Wear port city as his father, Claudio, played for Sunderland.

• Personal tragedy growing up

  Gio's older brother Jack, tragically died when he was just 13 after a two-year battle with glioblastoma. This aggressive and extremely rare brain tumour usually affects men in their 60s and 70s. Gio was just nine years old when Jack passed away, and on the evening following his death, the now 20-year-old thought his dreams of being a soccer player were over after losing his brother and mentor.

  "I'm never going to be a good soccer player now because my big brother taught me everything," Gio told his mother after Jack's untimely death, according to an interview with Sports Illustrated.

Mexico are historically the most successful national team in the CONCACAF region with 11 titles at continental level.

Nicknamed "El Tri", they have qualified for 17 World Cups throughout their history and have featured at each tournament since 1994, making them one of only six countries to do so!

Some incredible superstars have featured for Mexico, with the likes of Hugo Sanchez, Rafael Marquez and Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez as just some of the players to have represented some of the world's biggest clubs.

One of the pioneers of the "sweeper keeper" concept so prevalent in modern day, Campos was known for his skill on the ball outside the penalty area as much as his saves.

A proper athlete, the shot stopper had tremendous leaping ability, athleticism and speed to rush off his line, which balanced out his height disadvantage.

Campos made 129 appearances for Mexico between 1991 and 2003.

An interesting fact about Campos is that he started out as a striker and scored 28 goals for his first club UNAM.

He featured at two World Cups, in 1994 and 1998 and only just keeps Guillermo Ochoa out of this XI, with the latter regularly turning into Superman while representing the national team!

Salcido was a key figure at three World Cups – in 2006, 2010 and 2014 – as well as three Gold Cups – in 2005, 2007 and 2011 – and was also part of the team that won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer OIympics.

He played most of his international career as left-back, but also featured as a defensive midfielder and ended his career as a centre-back.

Salcido retired after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Marquez, nicknamed El Kaiser, is arguably one of the best Mexican players of all time.

The former Barcelona man is the third most-capped player in the history of the Mexican national team, earning 147 caps during his international stint between 1997 and 2018.

He became only the fourth player to play for his country at five consecutive World Cups, appearing in the 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018 editions.

Marquez also holds the record for playing the most number of games at World Cups (19).

He won the 1999 Confederations Cup and 2003 and 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cups with Mexico.

Robert CianfloneCB: Claudio Suarez

Suarez held the record for the most caps with the Mexico national team (177) until Andres Guardado dethroned him, with Ahmed Hassan, Sergio Ramos, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Al-Deayea the only other players with more caps.

He was a key member of Mexico's 1994 World Cup squad in the United States as well as the 1998 World Cup in France.

He missed the 2002 World Cup due to injury, but played at his third World Cup in Germany in 2006.

Speaking to the media on the eve of his team’s World T20 clash with Sri Lanka, Stanikzai said the level of talent in Afghanistan was evident from their remarkable climb up the cricketing ladder over the last decade, and said the gap between Full Members and Associates would only narrow from more regular competiton.”You can’t make big comparisons between Afghanistan and other Associates,” Stanikzai said. “Many other Associates have been playing for the last 30 to 40 years, participating in World Cups and other events. But if you see Afghanistan’s history at the elite level, we have only been playing for the last 6-7 years.”In that time we have achieved what other nations couldn’t do in 30-40 years. It shows how much talent Afghanistan have to play at the elite level. Definitely we need more games against the Full Members, it can increase our experience in the game.”Pointing to Afghanistan’s recent ODI and T20 series wins over Zimbabwe, both home and away, Stanikzai said his side had what it took to beat a Full Member side.”If we play against other Associate countries, we will get experience from each other, but if you play with a Full Member, like we did against Zimbabwe in ODIs and T20s, you learn how to beat them. Short of winning the lottery and discovering a renewable energy source, it has hard to think of a way in which the first competitive day of this tour of the Caribbean could have gone any better for England. Having brushed aside the St Kitts Invitational XI for just 59 in the first session of the match, they then witnessed their new opening pair bat for more than 50 overs in posting 158 for the first wicket.It was not a pretty, quick or even particularly entertaining stand. Indeed, some might even describe it as dull. But bearing in mind the identity of England’s opening batsmen and the testing months they have endured of late, it was wonderfully, reassuringly dull and a sign that, perhaps, a corner has been turned.First the caveats. This is a shockingly weak St Kitts side containing several men without first-class experience and one 16-year-old. Compared to the challenges that await England later this year – particularly Australia – it was like preparing to wrestle a lion by petting a kitten. If England want to test themselves a little more in the second warm-up game, starting on Wednesday, they may have to negotiate the inclusion of their unused squad players within the opposition.But England will still have benefited from the experience. Not only was Jonathan Trott able to settle back into the side with a calm innings that bore no traces of the struggles he has endured, but Alastair Cook batted with increasing fluency, Ben Stokes bowled with admirable control and England’s fielding was faultless.Their catching, in particular, was excellent. The best of several sharp chances taken in the slips was claimed by James Tredwell, diving low to his right, but Cook and Gary Ballance also clung on to catches that less confident, less content teams often fail to hold.There were some lessons here, too. With Chris Jordan, who also bowled nicely, preferred to Mark Wood or Liam Plunkett, both of whom are fit, it would appear that the final place in the Test side may come down to a tussle between Adil Rashid and Tredwell.Cook experienced only two nervous moments in reaching an unbeaten 95 by stumps. On 17, he top-edged a pull off Jeremiah Louis only to see the ball fall into space and then, on 92, St Kitts claimed a catch in the belief that a cut shot had bounced off the silly-point fielder’s boot and on to cover. Cook, and more importantly the umpires, were unconvinced.In between, he demonstrated a slightly more open stance, left the ball with far more certainty about the location of his off stump and, having reached his half-century from 95 balls, skipped down the pitch and planted a six over long-on in an innings that hinted at a more calm mind and more reliable technique than has been in evidence of late.Trott, meanwhile, was unhurried and solid. While never at his most fluent, this was an innings that will have settled some lingering nerves and, having reached his 50 from 113 balls, he demonstrated a couple of nice sweeps, pulls and one vintage drive through extra-cover to provide a reminder of his abilities.For both men greater challenges lie ahead. But it was a partnership that demonstrated a great appetite for crease occupation and suggested their powers of concentration, at least, have been boosted by an extended break from the fray.Stokes was the pick of the bowlers in the morning session. Maintaining a tight line to right and left-hand batsmen, he bowled with increasing pace and gained a surprising amount of swing in claiming three wickets in five deliveries at one stage.James Anderson beat the bat often in his spell with the new ball and produced a beauty that defeated Sherwin Peters’ footless grope and took the top of off stump, while Stuart Broad’s modest first spell was followed by a slightly improved second one that gained two wickets with short balls.Adil Rashid’s first ball – a horrid long-hop – was pulled for four, but he improved after that and, having set up Quinton Boatswain with a series of leg-breaks, defeated him with a googly. Tredwell was the last of the attack to win an opportunity and struck with just his third ball; Sheno Berridge attempting to sweep a straight one and missing.And while it tells you everything you need to know about the St Kitts performance that a stray dog that ran on to the playing area during the morning session provided more resistance to leaving the pitch than any of their batsmen, England could hardly have dealt with them more clinically. Australia must be quaking in their boots.

وشدد: “إنه موقف مستحيل بالنسبة لأي لاعب كرة قدم في وضع مثل الذي نعيشه الآن، وهو أمر غير مسبوق تقريبًا”.

كما تحدث عن رسالة لاعبة التنس التونسية أنس جابر، التي أعلنت أنها ستتبرع لفلسطين، قائلاً: “أي لفتة تساهم في تخفيف المعاناة الإنسانية يجب الإشادة بها، طالما أنها تتم على أسس إنسانية وليست سياسية”.

وواصل: “المسألة الأكثر صعوبة هي أن الصراع أدى إلى استقطاب وجهات النظر إلى حد أن أي بادرة، مهما كانت حسنة النية، ستثير حتما الثناء والانتقاد”.

وقال الصحفي الكروي الجزائري ماهر مزاهي: “لم يكن هناك أي مشاهير جزائريين لم يتحدثوا على الأقل للتعبير عن تعاطفهم مع المعاناة التي تحدث في فلسطين”.

وأكمل: “ما عليك أن تفهمه هو أن الجزائر كانت تحت الاستعمار الفرنسي لمدة 132 عامًا وأن أكثر من مليون أوروبي استقروا في الجزائر بحلول عام 1962، لذلك يرى الكثير من الجزائريين أن محنة الفلسطينيين مرادفة لماضيهم”.

ووصف مزاهي بيان صلاح بأنه “الديناميكية الأكثر إثارة للاهتمام من حيث تعرض أحد المشاهير لضغوط للتحدث علناً”.

وعلقت كارول كيموتاي، خبيرة استراتيجية الإعلام الرقمي في كينيا: “عندما تثار قضايا مثل العنصرية والجنس والصراع والدين والإجهاض وما إلى ذلك، يمكن لنجوم الرياضة أن يختاروا ما إذا كانوا سيتحدثون علنًا أو يبتعدون”.

Mushfiqur Rahim has given his full backing to Tamim Iqbal after the Bangladesh opener completed a wretched World T20 campaign with another early dismissal, this time against Australia. Mushfiqur also said he wasn’t yet sure why the team was failing, and that he would examine the causes.Tamim has scored just 83 runs in seven innings, with a highest score of 30 against Nepal, and an average that is slightly under 12. He was one of five Bangladesh players to have played all seven games in the tournament, and among just three to have the chance to bat in every innings.Tamim has been dismissed caught four times during this tournament, twice at mid-off, once at short third-man and once at slip. He was trapped leg-before once, and was out bowled thrice. It has now been 13 innings since he has scored a fifty in an international match. But it is still way short of his worst phase, which was a 26-innings fifty-less run between October 9, 2008 and July 9, 2009.”I don’t think it is yet time to see him as a burden,” Mushfiqur said. “The Super 10 matches were back to back, so probably he also needed more time to regroup. I don’t think he has reached a stage where he has to be dropped. I think now that it is over, we will try to see where his problems lie – whether it is mental or skillwise – and we should try to overcome them.”He is a very important player for us and I don’t think it is a solution to drop someone if he has played badly for five-six matches. I think we have many good players, but I don’t think we have someone like Tamim. We have to try and see to it that he can regroup and return to his old form and play consistently. Anamul is now playing consistently well so if Tamim can play like his old self our top order problem will be solved at least.”Looking back at the tournament itself, Mushfiqur said that the team was derailed by the loss to Hong Kong, after which they had to face four major T20 teams”After Hong Kong we were not playing against Nepal but against India, Pakistan or West Indies. So that was a big shock for us. I think we really recovered well but there were a couple of guys who didn’t perform well and that didn’t help us.”If four or five guys are out of form it is difficult to play well as a team and to play 40 overs of competitive cricket and that also cost us in planning and application. So we have to look after those areas and come back for our country and hopefully we will do that.”Mushfiqur felt that the combined loss of form hurt the team the most, as Bangladesh has often thrived on a number of players doing well together.”There were times in the past when myself, Shakib [Al Hasan] and Tamim were not there but still Bangladesh won. At that time there were four or five other players who performed consistently: Mashrafe, Riyad bhai, Nasir, Anamul, Sohag Gazi.”Now we are all here but you have to play on the field, names don’t matter. If Tamim, Shakib, myself, Riyad Bhai, Gazi, Nasir, Mashrafe, if all of us could play to our potential then I think the results would have been different.”
