– O futebol do Brasil é o maior do mundo.

Klopp must unleash Jota v Southampton

Liverpool’s next Premier League test sees them take on Southampton at home in their latest attempt at closing the gap between them and Chelsea at the top of the table.

On the chalkboard

In terms of who could be selected to be in the starting XI to take on the Saints, one player who did not feature in the 2-0 win over FC Porto in midweek but should be in the team to start tomorrow is Diogo Jota, who is currently earning a weekly wage of just over £90k-per-week according to Spotrac.

His previous appearance for the Reds came during the 4-0 win over Arsenal in the Premier League last week, where he found the net and earned an overall match rating of 7/10 from the Liverpool Echo, who said that he “took his goal superbly” and that his “clever flick helped set up the third” goal on the day.

In addition to his performance against Arsenal, the 24-year-old, who is currently valued at £40.5m by Transfermarkt, has proven throughout the season just what a dangerous attacking threat he can be for Liverpool.

The Portugal international, who has been described as a “pressing monster” by Pep Lijnders, has racked up an average of 2.2 shots and 1.5 key passes per game in the league, showing why he would be a frightening prospect and a real danger to Southampton’s defence.

In terms of who Jota could replace in the team to take on Southampton after sitting out the Porto game, it seems likely that Klopp could take Takumi Minamino out rather than Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah, especially since the Japan forward failed to impress in midweek by having no shots at goal or making any key passes.

Also, with Southampton only conceding three more goals than Liverpool in the league so far this season and Klopp saying in his latest press conference that his side will “have to be creative to break them down,” it would make sense for Jota to start, as his attacking and creative talents could be the key to securing another win for the Reds.

Emerson endures Spurs nightmare v Leeds

Antonio Conte clinched his first Premier League win in charge of Tottenham Hotspur as his side narrowly defeated Leeds United on Sunday evening.

Spurs were perhaps a little fortunate to walk away with all three points, having been largely dominated by the visitors in the first half and still, they did manage more of the ball and recorded more attempts at goal, too.

The victory sees the north Londoners leapfrog Manchester United, who sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier in the day, into seventh place and firmly back into the conversation for European qualification.

Rare second-half goals from midfield enforcer Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and left wing-back Sergio Reguilon sealed the come-from-behind win.

A passionate Conte was absolutely delighted at the full-time whistle, celebrating with all four sections of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as well as every member of the squad.

However, when he has time to reflect and watch back, he may be less than impressed by the performance of Emerson Royal at right wing-back as he struggled for large parts of the encounter.

The Brazilian, signed from Barcelona for £25m in the summer, was skinned and nutmegged by Jack Harrison for Leeds’ opener right before half-time as the former Man City dynamo was given acres of space and time to find Dan James at the back post.

[snack-amp-story url = “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-news-updates-transfers-antonio-conte-thfc” title=”Read the latest Spurs news, transfer updates and much, much more!”]

Press Association Sport journalist Jonathan Veal soon tweeted that “Harrison made a mug of Emerson” during that moment and truth be told, that was the story of his game.

Despite registering a whopping seven tackles, three more than any other player, the 22-year-old won just 50% of his 14 duels, both in the air and on the ground, and also lost possession 12 times from 53 touches – once every 4.4 times he had the ball, as per SofaScore.

Emerson received a yellow card for his troubles, too, which only goes to show how big a nightmare he had up against Marcelo Bielsa’s left flank.

Elsewhere, he struggled to contribute in the final third, providing just one accurate cross from four attempts (25%), no key passes or shots, and overall, managed just 19 passes – he usually manages around 32 per game this term.

The Evening Standard were pretty scathing in their review of his performance, claiming that he was ‘skinned by Jack Harrison for Leeds’ goal and failed to make a significant impact in the final third.’

All in all, the £22.5m-rated lightweight endured a tough, tough evening despite the encouraging result.

Spurs: Conte must axe Doherty vs Brentford

Spurs finally return to Premier League action this evening following their last-minute postponement at Burnley on Sunday afternoon.

Back in north London, Antonio Conte’s side welcome top-flight newcomers Brentford to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the most intriguing of encounters.

Only three points separate the Lilywhites and the Bees heading into kick-off, which is a rather damning indictment on the latter’s incredible rise and the former’s recent fall from grace.

It means that Spurs’ last competitive fixture was nearly a week ago, in which they were humiliated by the Europa Conference League’s lowest-ranked team, NS Mura, who defeated a heavily-rotated lineup in Slovenia.

Amongst the starters that day was right wing-back Matt Doherty, who you would think is a perfect fit for the Italian’s system but truth be told, he has never been good enough and that much was evident under Jose Mourinho. And then perhaps the writing was on the wall when his former Wolves boss Nuno Santo snubbed him frequently in N17.

Indeed, the Republic of Ireland international has been a bit of a walking liability and somewhat a £15m transfer disaster.

After last week’s game, former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara unleashed at the 29-year-old, and few others, deeming them all “shocking” to Sky Sports News. Similarly, Evening Standard reporter Dan Kilpatrick described him as “wasteful” and rusty” in his post-match column.

[snack-amp-story url = “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/tottenham-hotspur-latest-team-injury-team-news-updates-transfers-gossip-rumours-antonio-conte-thfc” title=”Read the latest Spurs news, transfer updates and much, much more!”]

Mourinho, who signed the defender in his first summer at the club, was once seen berating Doherty for his limp display against Liverpool and it even led to reports suggesting that his future was in doubt under the Portuguese, per ESPN.

Clearly not much has changed as he has started only five games in 2021/22.

The north London outfit clearly felt comfortable with Doherty providing competition to summer signing Emerson Royal as they cancelled Serge Aurier’s contract to allow him to find a new club post-deadline day.

But the £14.4m-rated dud, who earns around £74k-per-week at the club, isn’t fit to lace the Brazilian’s boots and that much is shown by who is often favoured, as evident above.

Fans around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have also regularly laid into the Irishman, some calling him a “liability” for example, so it’s clear that he has just been one massive disaster and as such, he should have no involvement against Brentford on Thursday evening.

With Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbuemo in fine form, scoring six goals between them, Conte cannot afford to carry someone like Doherty and instead, he must bring Emerson back into the fold, as he planned to do at Turf Moor a few days ago.

Northants left to watch and wait

Northamptonshire completed a crushing win over Leicestershire to move into second place in Division Two, but now have to wait for the result at Derby

Northamptonshire will now have their attention firmly fixed on events at Derby after they completed a crushing innings-and-196-run victory against Leicestershire at Wantage Road to move into the second promotion place. However, if Essex manage to conjure a victory from their match against Derbyshire it is them who will go up. Still, Northamptonshire couldn’t do any more than this crushing win which was completed mid-way through the afternoon session. David Lucas, who had the two overnight wickets, finished with 7 for 45. He removed Paul Nixon and Greg Smith early on and when Leicestershire slumped to 45 for 6 it didn’t seem as though they would make it to lunch. However, James Benning opened his shoulders with 72 off 64 balls and James Taylor showed some defiance as the pair added 86 before Benning fell to Nicky Boje. Claude Henderson offered a few lusty blows, but the end wasn’t far off coming. Lucas removed Henderson and Wayne White then Johan van der Wath bowled Harry Gurney to leave Northamptonshire watching the television, hoping Derbyshire do them a favour.Sam Northeast carried his bat for an unbeaten career-best 128, his maiden century, but Kent ended the season with an innings-and-23-run defeat against Gloucestershire at Bristol. Even though the home side’s hopes of promotion vanished with Northamptonshire’s win, they continued to dominant this game as they had done for the majority of the time. Kent began their second innings 288 runs behind, after Stephen Adshead completed his century, and their strongest period of defiance came as Northeast and Robert Key opened with 101 in 17 overs. But when Key was bowled by Steve Kirby the innings started to unravel. Alex Blake fell for a duck and Hamish Marshall chipped out two with his medium pace before Anthony Ireland – who was drafted in to replace James Franklin after his call-up to the Champions Trophy – claimed a brace for himself. Northeast’s hundred came from 133 balls and the lower order hit hard until Jon Lewis claimed the final wicket with Geraint Jones unable to bat due to a neck problem.Glamorgan’s batsmen continued to gorge themselves at The Oval as they amassed 702 for 8 against Surrey, just 16 short of their all-time highest total. Mark Cosgrove and Gareth Rees carried their opening stand to 314 before Cosgrove was run out for 175. Rees continued to a career-best 154 then Surrey enjoyed their best period with the ball as four wickets fell for 37 to Chris Jordan and Richard Logan. However, if they thought their toil would be ended they were proved very wrong as Mark Wallace and Jim Allenby added a club-record 240. Wallace eased to his second hundred of the season as the lead swelled and Allenby joined him as the fourth century-maker of the innings. When the declaration finally came, Garnett Kruger rubbed salt in Surrey’s wounds by removing Michael Brown for 17.Essex have been left needing some magic from Danish Kaneria against Derbyshire or will have to chase whatever they are set to snatch promotion off Northamptonshire. Andrew McGlashan watched the action.Division OneGary Keedy spun out Warwickshire with season-best 6 for 50 as Lancashire finished their Championship season with a 10-wicket victory at Old Trafford. Keedy’s haul ensured a day off for the players before their final Pro40 match as he removed Warwickshire a lead of just three. The visitors’ top order had gone to pace as Sajid Mahmood claimed two and Kyle Hogg trapped Ian Bell lbw for 9. Then it was over to Keedy who began by removing Jonathan Trott leg before to end a stand of 50 with Jim Troughton. Most of the middle order got starts, and Tim Ambrose pushed onto 55, but Keedy kept chipping away. It then took Tom Smith two balls to hit the winning runs.Nottinghamshire batted themselves into control for second place and a useful pay-day against relegated Sussex. Jon Culley reports from Trent Bridge.Yorkshire and Hampshire are both secure in Division One as there final game continues.
