Considering Liverpool’s No.8’s past injury woes, it was immediately concerning to see him be on the wrong end of such a bad tackle, but it doesn’t look as though any lasting damage has been done.

Rangers were linked with a move for Sheffield United midfielder John Lundstram in January and, with the 27-year-old still yet to sign a new contract with the Blades, Ross Wilson and Steven Gerrard should reignite their interest in him in the hopes of bringing him to Ibrox ahead of next season.

Lundstram enjoyed an excellent campaign with Sheffield United last season as the Yorkshire side secured a top 10 finish in their first year back in the top flight, but things have not worked out this season and they look destined for relegation back to the Championship.

The former Oxford United man contributed an impressive five goals and three assists in 34 appearances last season, despite featuring predominantly in a defensive midfield role, and he earned a solid 6.70 WhoScored average rating for his performances in the English top flight.

This season, however, he has managed no goals and two assists in 24 league appearances, averaging a disappointing 6.30 WhoScored rating, so it definitely seems that his drop in performances has been a major factor in the Blades’ woeful season so far.

Rangers were reportedly said to be waiting in the wings for Lundstram ahead of his contract expiry at the end of the season, although the midfielder is apparently seeking a wage of around £40,000 a week, which certainly wouldn’t suit the Ibrox outfit when you consider that Kemar Roofe reportedly earns £35,000 a week, the most of any Rangers player.

However, Lundstram showed last season with Sheffield United that he can be an excellent hard-working player in a well-organised team, so if he could rediscover that form with Rangers, then it seems like he would be an excellent fit in Gerrard’s side.

The Englishman has certainly impressed his teammates during his time at Bramall Lane, with club captain Billy Sharp full of praise for him last season, saying: “He’s got all the attributes. He runs so much in a game, he provides assists and goals. He’s a real menace to other teams and a great player to have.”

Although the Scottish champions may well have been put off by Lundstram’s reported demands, they should definitely revisit the idea of signing him ahead of the summer, as there may well be other Premier League clubs who are willing to offer him that sort of wage but hopefully the 27-year-old can be swayed by the prospect of playing in the Champions League under Gerrard next season.

عُقد يوم الثلاثاء لقاء بين وكيل عثمان ديمبلي موسى سيسوكو، والمدير الفني تشافي هيرنانديز، لمناقشة مسألة استمرار اللاعب في برشلونة.

هذا هو أول اتصال بين الطرفين قبل نهاية السوق الشتوي يوم الاثنين المقبل، وكانت نية سيسوكو أن يعرف بالضبط وضع لاعبه في نادي برشلونة، بعد كل الأخبار التي ظهرت في الأسابيع الأخيرة بخصوصه.

Plenty of Aston Villa supporters have been giving their thoughts on social media regarding Lee Hendrie’s transfer comments on Ivan Toney.

Toney, 25, was brought in by The Bees after Ollie Watkins left the club to join Dean Smith at Villa last summer.

Both forwards have had brilliant first seasons with their respective clubs, with Toney scoring 28 Championship goals in 38 games following his £5m move from Peterborough.

Toney, on £21,000-a-week in London, is under contract with the club until 2025, however, should Thomas Frank’s side fail to earn promotion to the Premier League, Hendrie feels Toney would be of interest to multiple clubs.

Talking to Football League World, cited by Birmingham Live, Hendrie urged Villa to move for the forward, should Brentford remain in the second-tier.

“There’s no way if Brentford don’t go up this season that he’s not getting snapped up by someone because he’s been the best player in the Championship arguably, because of the goals he has scored, and the assists he has been involved in.

“I’d certainly have a look at if I was Villa manager.

“If I had to pick a player, Toney I’d certainly be looking at if Brentford didn’t go up because of his goals this season.

“I feel that he would fit into a well certainly a Villa side if he was available, it’s just obviously what fee they’d have to pay for him.”

He has been called a ‘genius’ by Frank Lampard in the past and will go down as one of the greatest foreign imports the English game has seen.

Leeds linked with Aguero move

Leeds are thought to be one of those teams, with 90min claiming Marcelo Bielsa is interested in a stunning move for the world-renowned star.

It is stated that Aguero has been ‘pinpointed’ as a replacement for likely outgoing striker Rodrigo, with Marcelo Bielsa keen to link up with his fellow countryman.

He also wouldn’t have to move house, given Manchester and Leeds are in relatively close proximity, which acts as a further bonus for the player.

Aguero may be turning 33 this summer, but he could be a fantastic addition for Leeds, still possessing outrageous ability in the final third.

Of course, a move would surely depend on Orta convincing him to take a wage-cut, but at 33 perhaps the chance to link up with his countryman Bielsa could tempt him into a short-term deal.

If the Whites’ DoF could pull it off, given he has built his reputation at Leeds off finding bargains and young talent (BBC), it would be a real show of intent and a mega coup.

Nesta quarta-feira, Walter mais uma vez substituiu Cássio e correspondeu bem na vitória por 2 a 1 sobre o Cruzeiro, pela ida das quartas de final da Copa do Brasil. O reserva não quis falar sobre a concorrência, mas o preparador de arqueiros do Timão, Mauri Lima, sim. Ele fez diversos elogios a Walter e indicou que prefere ele.

O profissional, contudo, reforçou que a decisão sobre o titular compete ao técnico Fabio Carille, que na última terça-feira bancou a volta de Cássio ao time titular assim que se recuperar de lesão no ombro esquerdo.

-O Fabio passou a decisão para nós, colocou que era decisão dele e temos que respeitar a hierarquia. Às vezes existem empecilhos e coisas que não acontecem da maneira que queremos, mas o importante é que temos todos em condições de jogar a qualquer momento. -O Walter joga em qualquer time no Brasil, é titular em qualquer lugar. O Walter hoje coloco como um dos cinco melhores goleiros do Brasil. E a condição de ser titular ou não quem tem que avaliar é o treinador. Às vezes você passa tua ideia, mas o treinador principal vê como estão sendo os treinamentos, os jogos e decide. Por questão de hierarquia você coloca seus pensamentos, mas a decisão é do treinador – completou Mauri.

Walter, por sua vez, evitou polêmica em relação ao posto de titular e exaltou o resultado positivo na Arena de Itaquera.

– Sempre trabalhei, busquei meu espaço tentando ajudar a equipe, e é isso que estou fazendo. Respeito a opinião de cada um, mas estou trabalhando. Quem entra ajuda, e é isso que eu estou fazendo. Não vou desmotivar – afirmou Walter, antes de analisar o momento da equipe.

Em maio, Cássio e Mauri Lima se desentenderam quando o camisa 12 foi sacado da equipe por Tite e reclamou publicamente. Ele alegou que faltou comunicação com seu treinador específico. Entretanto, o profissional negou qualquer atrito entre ele e o goleiro.

-Não existe problema de relacionamento, o trabalho que fazemos é de cobrança e exigências diárias, para correção. Falamos sempre quando há erro e goleiro sempre sabe quando erra, porque deixo bem claro a maneira como trabalho. Mas independente de qualquer coisa o que aconteceu foi um fato isolado que ninguém sabe o que aconteceu, só eu e o Tite. Isso é coisa nossa, deixa as coisas passarem. Um dia quem sabe as pessoas ficarão sabendo. Mas fico focado em ajudar os nossos goleiros para termos o melhor desempenho em todas as competições – comentou Mauri.
