When Leeds failed to get Kemar Roofe’s contract wrapped up in time, it was a bitter blow for Marcelo Bielsa.

Roofe finished the 2018/19 campaign as the club’s top scorer on 15 goals but then left for pastures new.

He picked up the phone from a certain Vincent Kompany and joined the former Manchester City captain at Anderlecht. His spell ended after just a year, however.

The striker is now at Rangers and in the process of scoring ten strikes, he has put the Gers in a position to usurp Celtic and win the Scottish Premiership.

Arguably, Leeds have never been able to replace what he brought to their attack. They have attempted to do so with both Eddie Nketiah and Jean-Kevin Augustin, but they started a combined two league games for the Whites.

One of Roofe’s key qualities was pace. He used ruthless speed and quick thinking inside the penalty area to fashion goal scoring opportunities. The 28-year-old, unlike Patrick Bamford, could play on the shoulder. He also had eye-catching dribbling skills and close touch control.

It was these aspects that Eddie Gray thought Bielsa’s team would miss when he was injured in February 2019. He said: “It’s a blow for a number of reasons, goalscoring obviously. He’s lead the line well, but he’s got that little bit of pace. It is something we [Leeds] have not got in abundance. Real pace. I’m talking about, like Norwich pace.”

Indeed, despite Raphinha, it’s hard to say Bielsa has much speed in the final third. Of course, they move the ball incredibly quickly but in terms of athletic abilities, there isn’t a great deal in Leeds’ current squad.

That being said, they could finally make moves to finding their new Roofe in the January window.

United have been linked with a move for Montpellier forward Andy Delort, someone who could improve their forward line in a whole host of different ways.

For starters, he is a goal scorer. Delort has found the net on nine occasions this term and has also helped himself to six assists in the process. “He [Delort’s dad] always wanted me to be a striker,” the ten cap Algerian admitted last year.

Delort continued: “I wouldn’t say he forced me, but he pushed me towards that and helped me develop that love of scoring. I used to practice with my Dad and he’d say to me ‘if you miss the target two more times we’re going home’ and that threat ensured I kept hitting the target.”

Certainly this season he is demonstrating that love for beating the goalkeeper. Though, it’s his remarkable pace and dribbling that provide us with the closest similarities to Roofe.

The £27k-per-week earner has performed one dribble per match this season – just 0.3 more than the former Leeds striker’s career average, but crucially he can get beyond a defender. Delort was clocked as the fastest player in Ligue 1 last term, usurping even the likes of Kylian Mbappe.

He is a ruthless striker and life Roofe, would offer Bielsa the ability to run in behind. Having a different option to Bamford as the season goes on cannot be underestimated.

Everton held Manchester United to a thrilling 3-3 draw at Old Trafford on Saturday to deny Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side a return to the top of the Premier League table, just days after the Red Devils inflicted a devastating 9-0 defeat on Southampton.

Goals from Edinson Cavani and Bruno Fernandes put United ahead in the first half but the Toffees hit back in style, capitalising on some sloppy defending from the hosts to smash two goals to tie the game in the second half. Scott McTominay’s header looked to have sealed all three points for United but Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late, late strike rescued a draw for The Blues.

United have now dropped points for the second time in three games following the goalless draw with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium at the end of last month.

While Victor Lindelof, who has previously been subject to criticism from fans, players and pundits, may seem like an obvious target, Harry Maguire was actually one of the main culprits who was at fault for the dreadful defensive performance.

Indeed, SofaScore graded him as one of United’s worst players with a low 6.1 rating, second only to the hapless David de Gea (5.1).

Given Calvert-Lewin scored with the final kick of the game as Maguire seemed to play him onside, it’s fair to say that the Englishman struggled to cope with the pressure as he was a bit of a liability at the back. He recorded zero tackles, which was two fewer than Lindelof himself, and also showed a lapse in concentration as he didn’t win a single duel on the ground and made one error leading to a shot, via SofaScore.

Not only did he endure an extremely difficult evening up against the rampaging Calvert-Lewin, who won five out of his eight duels overall (62%), he was also rather wasteful in possession, as he produced just two accurate long balls from four attempts.

His errors in the build-up to Calvert-Lewin’s late equaliser summed up his frustrations on the night after Lucas Digne’s free-kick caused chaos inside the box.

United missed a real opportunity to go joint-top of the Premier League table as a result and are now two points behind Manchester City, who have two games in hand over their arch rivals as they prepare for the trip to Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, former England international and football pundit Steve Howey has explained how Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane could leave north London at the end of this season. 

Kane has arguably been one of Spurs’ shining lights this season, alongside the likes of Son Heung-min and Tanguy Ndombele, with the Englishman proving pivotal over these last few campaigns for Tottenham.

The 27-year-old has also been tipped to potentially break Alan Shearer’s Premier League goalscoring record (The Athletic), and Howey believes that he could be ‘prised away’ from Spurs at the end of this season if Jose Mourinho’s side continues on this run of form.

“I wouldn’t be massively surprised if he was prised away at the end of the season if Tottenham struggle,” explained the former Newcastle United and Manchester City defender.

“It must be frustrating for him. He knows he’s at the top of his game and it just depends on what he wants out of his playing career.

“He’ll want to score goals and he’ll want to break Alan Shearer’s record but he would surely want to win things as well.

“Unless Tottenham change and Mourinho is allowed to bring in more top-quality players, I think it’s going to be another season

where they look good, but don’t actually do anything.”

وسيلتقي يوفنتوس غدًا السبت مع بولونيا، ضمن منافسات الدوري الإيطالي، وتحدث المدير الفني أليجري في مؤتمر صحفي خاص بالمباراة، نشره موقع “فوتبول إيطاليا”.

وقال أليجري: “إنها مباراة صعبة، لقد استقبلت شباكهم مرة واحدة فقط من الركلات الثابتة وسجلوا العديد من الأهداف في الشوط الثاني”.

وأضاف: “لقد عملنا بشكل جيد هذا الأسبوع، ديبالا غير متاح، وكييزا يعمل بشكل جيد، مثل دانيلو، لكنهم لن يكونوا متاحين للمباراتين المقبلتين، ومن غير المرجح أن يسافر كيلليني مع الفريق بسبب مشاكله البسيطة المعتادة”.

Carlo Ancelotti should look to unleash Joshua King when Everton visit West Bromwich Albion on Thursday night after a quiet performance from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

King is yet to open a single fixture for the Toffees since his Deadline Day arrival at Goodison Park, with the ex-AFC Bournemouth forward given just five outings from the bench to date.

The latest of his appearances came as a stoppage-time substitute during Monday’s 1-0 win over Southampton, replacing goalscorer Richarlison to burn an extra few seconds off the clock whilst Ralph Hasenhuttl’s south coast natives sought a late equaliser.

Ancelotti has shown a frequent resistance to awarding King any prolonged spells on the pitch since completing a permanent deal until the end of the season, with 34 minutes against Fulham and 21 minutes at home to Manchester City his longest outings to date.

The Norway international’s appearances against Leeds, Manchester United and Southampton only reach a combined 13 minutes, whilst he was not given a single second of action during last month’s Merseyside derby win over rivals Liverpool at Anfield.

But Thursday’s trip to relegation-threatened West Brom presents Ancelotti with an ideal chance to hand King his first opening call, with Everton in action again four days later against Chelsea in a crucial tie for the Toffees’ hopes of securing Champions League football.

Calvert-Lewin struggled to shine on his return to the starting line-up following a hamstring injury against Southampton, too, with the 18-goal striker unable to add to his record despite a tireless work ethic, having rarely fashioned chances to break the Saints defence.

The England international offered just a single shot, which was blocked, and only completed 52% of his 27 passes to earn SofaScore’s second-worst match rating by a Blues player at 6.8 out of 10.

Calvert-Lewin has averaged 2.5 shots a game in the Premier League this season with 1.5 on target, having only seen eight of 56 attempts on goal blocked throughout the campaign, per WhoScored. He also completes 69.5% of his passes over 22 top-flight outings to date.

Ancelotti should now look to afford Calvert-Lewin a chance to recharge on Thursday night as playing three games in such a short period of time after just coming back from injury may be a risk. The manager should place his backing in King for the first time, having yet seen the best of the £9.9m-rated maestro

Before joining Everton, King said his goodbyes to Bournemouth with three shots and three successful dribbles from five attempts away to promotion-chasers Reading, along with providing two key passes of which his Cherries teammates could not turn home, per SofaScore.

That performance featured three-times his average shots (0.8) and almost triple his number of key passes (0.7) per game recorded in the second-tier this season, plus a solid increase in dribbles (0.8) and success rate (50%).

Arguably, Everton signed King at the optimal moment after a campaign ravished by injury and testing positive for coronavirus. Yet chances to shine at Goodison have been thin and far between under Ancelotti.

A quiet night from Calvert-Lewin against Southampton and a trip to Chelsea to come after West Brom should surely now see Ancelotti unleash King.

Na tarde deste domingo, o Salgueiro derrotou o Santa Cruz jogando em casa, no Estádio Cornélio de Barros. O time da casa fez 3 a 0, sem dificuldades e segue liderando o Hexagonal Final do Campeonato Pernambucano. Os gols da partida foram marcados por Rodolfo Potiguar, Cássio Ortega e Jhon. As duas equipes voltam a joga pelo Estadual no próximo domingo.

O primeiro tempo de jogo foi de total domínio do time da casa, que foi superior durante toda primeira etapa. O Salgueiro foi em busca do seu gol desde o início e criou boas jogadas. Aos 31 minutos, após toque de mão de Leonardo dentro da área, o árbitro marcou pênalti. Rodolfo Potiguar foi para a cobrança e abriu o placar. Na segunda etapa, o Salgueiro marcou mais uma vez, desta vez com Jhon aos sete minutos. Com esse gol, o atacante assumiu a artilharia do Estadual com quatro gols marcados.
