Amid an excellent start under Arne Slot, Liverpool have reportedly turned their attention towards La Liga as they sound out potential replacements for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is currently set to leave as a free agent next summer.

The Reds couldn’t have asked for a much better start to life under new manager Slot, with just one loss and four goals conceded in eight games in all competitions. The latest instalment of the post-Jurgen Klopp era came this weekend as the Reds scraped past a resolute Wolves side to win 2-1 courtesy of Mohamed Salah’s penalty. It wasn’t their finest performance of the campaign, but Liverpool got the job done once again.

However, despite sitting top of the Premier League, Liverpool aren’t without their problems. As things stand, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are set to become free agents and leave Anfield next summer in three major potential blows to Slot. And whilst none of the trio have outright said they want to depart, the fact that new contracts are yet to be announced should be a cause for concern.

The Reds do at least have a plan in place if Alexander-Arnold leaves next summer. According to CaughtOffside, Michael Edwards is keeping tabs on Juanlu Sanchez, who Sevilla reportedly value at just €25m (£21m) ahead of 2025.

Alas, Liverpool aren’t the only side eyeing a move. Reports have also linked Arsenal and West Ham United to sign the 21-year-old Spaniard. Given the Reds’ potential need to find a replacement for Alexander-Arnold, it is a busy race that they could be desperate to win when next summer arrives. Replacing Alexander-Arnold would be a near-impossible task, but Sanchez certainly has plenty of potential.

The argument could be made that a direct replacement for Alexander-Arnold doesn’t exist down the right-hand side, handing Liverpool the ultimate task. Seemingly turning towards Sanchez, it would be a lot to ask the Spaniard to replicate Alexander-Arnold’s stunning passing range, but he could certainly step in and hand the Reds a different element within Slot’s back four.

Sanchez is someone who would have to grow into such a role, given that he’s still just 21, but that should hand Slot an advantage. The Dutchman would be in a position to mould the full-back into the perfect heir to Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool throne.

Praised for his “great” game against Barcelona by Spanish journalist Angel Perez last season, Olympic gold medallist Sanchez should be one to watch. When 2025 arrives, the battle between Premier League sides should be one to take note of, especially if Trent Alexander-Arnold fails to sign a new contract at Liverpool and leaves as a free agent next summer.

Hulk pediu calma aos torcedores, que jogavam copos e xingavam, enquanto a massa do Atlético-MG no setor visitante fazia a festa – ainda mais. Aos cantos de “olé” e “vai embora”, como fizeram em Belo Horizonte, os atleticanos celebravam, em lua de mel com o time campeão três vezes na temporada.

Uma parte da torcida ainda tentou demonstrar apoio, mas já aos 20 minutos do segundo tempo os espaços foram começando a se abrir com pessoas indo embora. Após o gol de Hulk, a arquibancada voltou a cantar muito, empolgada especialmente com a vaga na Libertadores e o bicampeonato da Sul-Americana. Foi um show, como se a partida ainda estivesse disputada, inclusive com muita comemoração no gol que diminuiu o placar.

Dentro do gramado, melhor para Hulk, Keno, Jair e cia, que fecham a espetacular temporada com mais uma taça.

Rewind to just shy of three weeks ago and West Bromwich Albion were top of the Championship, undefeated in their first six games and looking firmly on course to a Premier League return after a four-season hiatus. “We have to manage this situation,” Corberan said after the loss to Boro. “Every game and every defeat has a message for us, detailing things we did well and things we need to improve.” “We need to get these messages from every game to be able to move on and prepare for the next one.”

After the draw with Mlilwall, Corberan said: “The fact we now have an international break is a perfect period for us to find improvements in the squad, even though we know we will be missing some players who will be away. We are going to work and keep growing as a team.”

Harry Whitwell impressing

Talking of growing the team, one player that Corberan is very excited about is young midfielder Harry Whitwell. Whitwell, 18, has been the star player for Richard Beale’s U-21 side this term. Last month, he netted five goals in three games and earned a nomination for the Premier League 2 player of the month for September.

As a result of his good form, not only is the England U-18 international now training with West Brom’s first-team, he’s also on the radar of higher England age groups, according to the Express & Star.

Speaking about Whitwell, who turns 19 next month, Corberan said he’s delighted with the teenager’s development: “I knew he had a lot of potential. But the level he is maturing as a player, every time he plays with us, every time I watch him, I feel more pleased about how he is performing and growing.”

The youngster could soon leave

Despite being impressed with Whitwell, Corberan may soon let him leave The Hawthorns, albeit not permanently.

“He is a player you can think of two possibilities. He is still a young player. He can make the full year here, progressing how he is, or think about the loan if something appears or we find something we consider is his next step,” Corberan explained to Express & Star.

Any decision on Whitwell’s future, however, won’t be made right now: “These decisions in this time right now? It’s not the moment. These decisions need to start at the end of November and beginning of December, according to how he is progressing, and more things.”

But Howe remained upbeat, saying after the defeat that he sees signs of improvement in his side even in their tricky spell of results.

“I thought it was a vast improvement overall in terms of performance from the start of the season, and I think we’re gathering in terms of our overall level, it’s just we’re not totally clicking in every area. And of course to win games at this level, you need all guns firing.”

Nonetheless, new faces could be needed to continue their progression towards the Premier League elite, and now they may have identified their next addition.

That is according to reports coming out from Spain, which claim that Newcastle United are “in fairly advanced negotiations” to sign Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo.

The Cherries forward has enjoyed an excellent start to the campaign, scoring three times and grabbing an assist in his seven outings, and appears destined to leave the Vitality Stadium sooner rather than later amid growing interest.

Indeed, his massive improvement in recent months has been hailed by Football Analyst Ben Mattinson on X, who dubbed him a “very intelligent” player who has “improved so much” under Andoni Iraola on the south coast.

According to the report, Arsenal, Newcastle and Tottenham are among those eyeing up a move for the winger, who plays predominantly on the right side of attack, a position that Bournemouth were keen to strengthen over the summer.

However, it is Howe’s side who have taken the next step and are the most advanced to sign him, though no side has yet made any “concrete” approach to the Cherries.

It is suggested that any signing could “reach £50m plus bonuses”, a move that would be among the most expensive in Newcastle’s history. However, with the winger still just 24 years old and likely to improve further, he could fit their recruitment strategy and may well be the man who finally gets Howe’s side back to the top echelons of the Premier League.
