Crystal Palace Eyeing Audacious Signing Of 32-Year-Old

Crystal Palace still have time to complete some late signings in the summer transfer window and they are reportedly eyeing one audacious addition.

Will Crystal Palace make more signings?

The Eagles retained their Premier League status once again last season, with Roy Hodgson coming in and steadying the ship impressively, and the hope is that they are going to kick on again in 2023/24.

Palace have looked fairly good in the opening weeks of the campaign, winning 1-0 away to Sheffield United in their opening fixture, before losing 1-0 at home to Arsenal on Monday night ahead of Saturday's trip to Brentford.

Some new signings have come in to bolster the options at Hodgson's disposal, including Jefferson Lerma and Matheus Franca, while Michael Olise decided against a move to Chelsea at the eleventh hour, before deciding to sign a new long-term deal at Selhurst Park.

Will Crystal Palace sign Eden Hazard?

According to a key update from Football Transfers, Palace are now 'plotting a shock move' for former Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard this summer:

"Crystal Palace are plotting a shock move to save Eden Hazard from retirement, FootballTransfers understands. The Belgian is still a free agent after leaving Real Madrid earlier in the summer and there have been suggestions that Hazard could retire due to his persistent injury issues.

"We are told, however, that the feeling at Crystal Palace is quite different. Eagles boss Steve Parish believes that the 32-year-old still has something to offer, commercially and on the pitch. Head coach Roy Hodgson is also said to be keen for the move to happen.

"At this stage in his career, this would not be a grand comeback to the Premier League, but more of a last hurrah. Hazard would be offered a simple one-year deal with a pay-as-you-play structure. In other words, he would receive an inexpensive base salary but with the ability to augment his income through appearance and performance bonuses."

This could be quite a signing by Palace, with Hazard someone who has arguably been one of the most exciting attacking players of his generation, scoring 110 goals in 352 appearances for Chelsea, at a time when he was described as "world-class" by Hakim Ziyech.

Since joining Real Madrid, there is no question that the Belgian's career has absolutely plummeted, however, with injuries holding him back hugely, and only seven goals coming his way in 76 matches.

For that reason, there would be a clear risk to Palace signing Hazard, who is unquestionably past his best as a player, but at 32, he may still have something to offer if he can remain fit, considering the likes of superstars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are comfortably older yet still playing on a regular basis.

It is one of those signings that could ultimately go either way, with the risk that it could backfire but a chance that the Nike-sponsored ace could also find his groove again back in the Premier League, improving the level of everyone around him and enjoying the autumn of his career. Whether it happens remains to be seen, but Palace may look to take a punt on a pay-as-you-play deal.

Leeds Eyeing Move For 24-Year-Old Premier League Midfielder

Leeds United are looking to sign a Premier League midfielder before deadline day arrives in the summer transfer window, according to a new update.

Will Leeds sign a midfielder?

The Whites have conducted some exciting transfer business since returning to the Championship, enhancing their hopes of sealing a quickfire promotion in the process.

Joel Piroe has emerged as a hugely exciting recent signing, arriving from Swansea City as a regular source of goals, scoring on his debut away to Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon, in a 4-3 win for Daniel Farke's side.

Meanwhile, Karl Darlow and Ethan Ampadu have also arrived as experienced addition who could help make Leeds a more solid outfit, while the club continue to work on potential deals for Joseph Paintsil and Nadiem Amiri, from Genk and Bayer Leverkusen respectively.

It looks as though the Whites could look to raid a Premier League club for the signing of one of their players, though, according to a fresh transfer claim.

Will Leeds sign Lewis O'Brien?

According to reliable journalist Alan Nixon on Patreon [via MOT Leeds News], Leeds are keen on potentially signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien before the transfer window shuts next Friday night.

The Reds want £10m for the services of the 24-year-old, who sealed a move to the City Ground from Huddersfield Town last summer, so a loan move to Elland Road could be in the offing. A clause could even be included that means the Whites have to sign him permanently if they are promoted back to the Premier League this season.

O'Brien has found it hard to make an impact in the top flight since arriving from Huddersfield, making only six starts in the competition last season and being loaned out to MLS side D.C. United midway through the campaign.

He has excelled in the Championship, however, making 131 appearances for Huddersfield, and chipping in with eight goals and 10 assists for them in that time which earned him a move to the top flight. It could be that the second tier is his best level where he can stand out the most, which is why he could be such a shrewd signing by Leeds.

Former Huddersfield manager Carlos Corberan called O'Brien a "very special" player during their time together at the club, and his ability to dictate a midfield battle and be a tenacious presence off the ball could make such a difference at Elland Road.

Last season, he averaged 2.2 tackles per game during his stint with D.C. United and he also won five Man of the Match awards from WhoScored in 2021/22, as he stood out as one of Huddersfield's most important players.

At 24, O'Brien is still a young midfielder who could find another gear in a Leeds shirt, and the luxury of a loan move means that if it doesn't work out, they won't have to pursue a permanent move. That could change if the Whites earn promotion, as mentioned, but if that happens, it may mean that the midfielder has been a success and deserves to be retained, so it could be one to watch.

'It is an eye-opener, we will learn from it' – Rohit

The stand-in India captain also spoke about why Ajinkya Rahane was left out, and what MS Dhoni’s innings meant

ESPNcricinfo staff10-Dec-20171:40

‘Games like these will teach us a lot’ – Rohit

At 29 for 7, India were in danger of plummeting to the all-time lowest ODI total. While they managed to avoid the ignominy thanks to MS Dhoni’s stubbornness down the order, a total of 112 proved woefully inadequate even in bowling-friendly conditions; Sri Lanka chased it down with 29.2 overs to spare. Rohit Sharma, in his first ODI as captain, admitted such matches were an “eye-opener” but refused to read much too much into it.”Credit should go to the Sri Lankan bowlers, they made full use of the conditions but, as a team, as a batting unit, days like these will teach us a lot of things. We as a team want to thrive in such conditions and come out on top,” Rohit said at the end of the match. “Today was not the ideal day and hopefully boys can learn from it and next time we are put in this situation we know how to tackle that and come out of it.A noticeable feature of India’s innings was the slow scoring rate right from the start. At the end of 10 overs, India were on 11 for 3 – the lowest in a match featuring two Full Members in the last five years – and they ambled to 29 for 7 by the time the 20th over was completed. Rohit said the idea was to weather the early storm before cashing in once the pitch eased out. The loss of wickets in quick succession though meant that plan didn’t fall in place. “We knew conditions were going to be tough but sometimes when you are put in such situations, you have to bat to the situation, which means we’ve got to respect the bowlers,” he said. “If you notice, any bowler who would have bowled in that channel would have got wickets. For us, we were trying to survive in those conditions because we knew that if initial overs get over, the wicket will get better. But we we lost wickets and we were also not scoring at pace, which put us in even more trouble.”I don’t think we played any rash shots, they bowled in the right channel, kept us guessing all the time and batsmen were made to play all the time. It is an eye-opener, we will learn from it. It is a young batting group, the guys, including myself, will learn and play us out of these situations well next time.”With Ajinkya Rahane missing out in difficult batting conditions, Rohit faced the inevitable questions on that front. While Rahane has struggled in Test cricket recently, his ODI form has been good: he has scored half-centuries in each of his last four innings. Rohit clarified that Rahane was dropped only because they couldn’t find a place for him in the opening slot. “I think we made it clear in Sri Lanka that he is an opening batsman and we don’t want to keep changing his batting slot. It plays on anyone’s mind not just his, if one’s batting order keeps on changing.”We have identified him as a top-order batsman and that’s the only reason he has to sit out. Having said that we understand the runs he scored in the past few series. We want to give these guys [Manish] Pandey, [Kedar] Jadhav, [Shreyas] Iyer fair amount of games before we start touring abroad. It’s important that they take the opportunity.”Even as seven India batsmen fell for single-digit scores, Dhoni stood out with his 87-ball 65 sprinkled with 10 fours and two sixes. His innings was particularly impressive for the way he marshalled the lower order and relatively steered India out of a potentially embarrassing situation. Rohit was unsurprised by Dhoni’s calm in the circumstances. “He has been in that situation so many times and he has proved himself again and again,” he said. “First of all I never understood that whether there was talk of him being in our plans or not. Once he gets runs, the whole conversation changes. He showed us again. I wish one of our top order was batting, so that we could have got more runs. We’ll learn from it and move forward.”

Ofensivamente, contudo, o Botafogo deixou a desejar.

E as pessoas querem jogar. Tem pessoas que já foram jogadores praticantes e não tem a menor noção, neste momento, daquilo que é esse esforço terrível que se faz – analisou Paulo Autuori, após a partida.

West Ham: Journalist Shares Free Agent Striker Transfer Plan

Journalist Wayne Veysey has shared some West Ham United transfer news as they may not be done despite the closure of this summer's window.

Who have West Ham signed this summer?

David Moyes and the Hammers hierarchy sealed some impressive deals over the latest transfer market, putting pen to paper on multi-million pounds moves for Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Ghana star Mohammed Kudus.

The quartet came in after they sold both star midfielder Declan Rice, who joined Arsenal for around £105 million, and striker Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta.

So far, some have proven to be very shrewd additions, particularly Alvarez who put in a Man of the Match display against Luton Town on Friday night; subsequently attracting praise from members of the media.

However, it is arguably Kudus who is the most exciting of the lot, especially when factoring in his performances at both club and international level over the last 12 months.

David-Moyes-Transfers-West-Ham-United-Ian-Maatsen

“I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Mohammed to West Ham United,” said the manager.

“He’s a terrific young talent, who has already shone at the very highest level for Ajax in the Champions League and made well over 150 senior appearances at the age of 23 – so it was no surprise to see so many top clubs chasing his signature this summer.

“The fact we’ve been able to attract a player of his undoubted quality to London Stadium shows the pull West Ham have now – the Board and Tim deserve huge credit for getting this one over the line.”

However, West Ham did ultimately fail to shore up some key areas of the squad; most notably in the striker area despite a late push for Paris-Saint Germain's Hugo Ekitike.

In some good news for the Irons, despite their summer business looking done before now, a report by journalist Veysey for Football Insider shares they could still go for a marksman.

Indeed, it is believed West Ham could now turn to signing a free-agent striker after "multiple potential summer window deals collapsed".

Despite extensive talks to bring in a centre-forward, they couldn't get one through the door, and could take to the free agent market for a solution.

Michail Antonio has started the season in fine form, but West Ham's extensive fixture schedule means they perhaps should consider bringing in another back-up alongside Danny Ings.

Who should West Ham sign?

We believe one good option could come in the form of ex-FC Porto star Moussa Marega, who recently became a free agent following his exit from Saudi side Al-Hilal.

The 32-year-old may well be an astute back-up to Antonio given his experience. Marega, during the best spell of his career, racked up 72 goals and 32 assists over 190 appearances for Porto (Transfermarkt).

Marega has actually been linked with a move to the London Stadium before, specifically back in 2019, when reports suggested that they were even close to signing him at one point.

The Malian could be a fairly solid alternative to the likes of Ings, with Moyes looking to contend in the Europa League whilst maintaining their excellent start to the new league season.

Chahal bags four in India's biggest T20 win

Chasing 181, Sri Lanka crumbled to 87 all out as India’s bowlers mastered dew-sodden conditions at the Barabati Stadium

The Report by Karthik Krishnaswamy20-Dec-20174:21

Dasgupta – Dhoni at his best when he has 10 overs to bat

Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsDew was always going to play a role in the first T20I at the Barabati Stadium, and both teams knew it. Sri Lanka picked just one specialist spinner, packed their side with seam options, and gave themselves the early advantage by winning the toss.Unlike a lot of T20 games in India, however, there was dew all the way through this one, and not just in the second innings, and one set of bowlers handled it far, far better than the other. Sri Lanka’s quicks struggled: Nuwan Pradeep and Thisara Perera sent down five full-tosses in the last two overs of India’s innings, and MS Dhoni and Manish Pandey clattered two of them for four and two for six. In all, India scored 61 in their last four overs.India, unlike their opponents, trusted their spinners to deal with the dew and ran away to their biggest win in T20Is. Both their wristspinners prospered, and Yuzvendra Chahal finished with figures of 4 for 23. Chasing 181, Sri Lanka crumbled against pressure from India’s bowlers and pressure from the scoreboard, and crashed to 87 all out, their innings lasting just 16 overs, featuring only six boundaries. If the bowlers were able to control the slippery ball and land it on a decent area, there was help to be had from a two-paced surface. Sri Lanka did this patchily in the early part of India’s innings. Pradeep and Angelo Mathews extracted unexpected bounce to send back Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer, but not before they had put on useful stands of 38 and 63 with KL Rahul. There were plenty of freebies from Sri Lanka’s bowlers, and Rahul was particularly ruthless on anything short or on his pads, a pulled six off Mathews and a pick-up flick to long leg off Pradeep the standout shots among his eight boundaries. When he was bowled by a Thisara slower ball for 61, India were 112 for 3 in the 15th over.India were in a good position, but they weren’t yet running away with the game. It was here that Sri Lanka’s bowling really lost control. Dhoni and Pandey added to the pressure on them by manufacturing boundaries out of nowhere. In the 18th over, Dhoni guessed correctly that Thisara would send down a slower offcutter, and he walked across his stumps, waited, and paddled him away to the right of short fine leg. Then, bowling what was meant to be the last ball of the 19th, Pradeep sent down a chest-high full-toss outside off stump. Pandey ramped it away for six over fine third-man, and put away the resultant free-hit as well – another full-toss – slapping it to the cover boundary.Sri Lanka lost Niroshan Dickwella in the second over of their chase, a clever slower ball from Jaydev Unadkat foiling his plans to hit him inside-out. But they still had something going for them when Upul Tharanga was at the crease – he launched Hardik Pandya for a big six over midwicket in the third over, and then, messing with India’s calculations of where to place their two deep fielders, swept and shovelled Chahal for a four and a six off successive balls in the fifth over.Chahal was under pressure, and Sri Lanka weren’t badly placed at all at 39 for 1. But another attempted sweep from Tharanga resulted in a bottom-edge onto pad and then into Dhoni’s gloves, and just like that Sri Lanka’s momentum stalled.Kusal Perera, playing his first international game – and only his second match – since going home injured from the Champions Trophy in June, struggled for rhythm. Angelo Mathews, new to the crease, soaked up a few dot balls and by the time he popped a return catch back to Chahal in the eighth over, the required rate had climbed past 10.There was no release from Chahal or Kuldeep Yadav, no soft full-tosses or long-hops. Sri Lanka didn’t hit a boundary between the fifth and 15th overs, and in that time they lost 7 for 37 in 60 balls.Asela Gunaratne walked past one fired down the leg side, and Dhoni completed a fortunate stumping, fumbling the ball onto the stumps. Dasun Shanaka, having looked all at sea against Chahal’s googly, holed out off Kuldeep. Chahal then spun his wrong’un past Thisara, and Dhoni completed a more convincing stumping. Kusal, having hacked and slashed ineffectually for 27 balls, finally fell in the 13th over when he miscued a big heave off Kuldeep. Sri Lanka were 70 for 7, and the end was near.
