England T20 specialist Tymal Mills and a clutch of Afghanistan players – including IPL-bound Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi – are among the high-profile names to be included in the draft for this year’s Caribbean Premier League.Mills, who was picked up for USD1.8m in the IPL auction last month, is one of four English players in the draft, alongside former Test spinner Monty Panesar. Mills’ availability is likely to be limited, however, as there is significant overlap between the CPL – scheduled to run from August 1 to September 9 – and the NatWest Blast, England’s domestic T20 tournament which this year takes place in July and August, with Finals Day on September 2.Rashid and Nabi are joined by compatriots Nawroz Mangal, Asghar Stanikzai and Najibullah Zadran. There are a number of other Associate players in the mix, including Canada’s Rizwan Cheema and Ruvindu Gunasekera; George Dockrell, Kevin O’Brien and Niall O’Brien from Ireland; Oman’s Sufyan Mehmood and Zishawn Qureshi of the USA.Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are all well represented in the 258-player pool, ahead of the draft scheduled for March 10.The list also includes a number of local players looking to be picked up, including two-time World T20 winner Marlon Samuels. Those retained by their franchises, as well as marquee players, will be announced separately.”T20 is capturing the world of cricket by storm, and with the huge numbers of talented players from across the cricketing world eager to sign up to the biggest party in sport, I’ve no doubt that the 2017 season will be our best yet,” Tom Moody, the CPL’s director of international cricket, said.”In attracting the cream of international talent from a healthy blend of established and fast-developing nations, it extends the growing international appeal of the sport and of the Hero CPL itself, and I have no doubt that we are going to see a hugely contested player draft in Barbados on March 10th.”

Villa Could Land "Prolific" £34m-rated Ace This Summer

Aston Villa aren’t giving up hope just yet in their pursuit to sign Ferran Torres, as new revelations claim the Villans could strike late to score the Spaniard.

Unai Emery and Monchi are planning to take the Midlands club to the next level, as highlighted by their rumoured targets this summer.

With a reported £150m in the bank and European football confirmed, may now be the prime time for the Spanish duo to seek star names to adorn the claret and blue ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Could Aston Villa sign Ferran Torres?

Late last month, reports in Spain claimed that Villa could seek a loan move for Ferran Torres with an option to buy, as Barcelona face critical financial woes that could see them offload talent in abundance.

However, news this week via transfer insider Dean Jones explained that Villa could present an offer to the Catalan giants later this window in the bid to secure the 23-year-old.

Talking to Football FanCast, Jones said:

"I think the Ferran Torres one could still become interesting. He obviously doesn't want to leave Barcelona, and it seems like he's made that pretty clear. But the deeper we get into this transfer window, the more I wonder if he might actually end up leaving.

I mean, if we get to a situation whereby the season in Spain begins in August, and he's not in the picture, and you get him towards the back end of the transfer window. I wonder if that's when Villa might be able to activate a deal like that."

Valued by FootballTransfers at €40m (£34m), Monchi could pull off a marquee deal for the Spaniard if a loan deal with a reported €25m (£21.5m) option to buy is struck.

How good is Ferran Torres?

Hailed as “prolific” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, the 23-year-old could arrive at Villa Park already equipped with Premier League experience, after making 28 league appearances for Manchester City.

In that time, the Foios-born whiz secured two Premier League medals, as well as winning the Carabao Cup with the Citizens in a trophy-laden spell in Manchester.

The one thing that was missing from his time under Pep Guardiola was consistent game time, making just 15 starts in his first season at the Etihad where he averaged a goal every 186 minutes.

Scoring seven and assisting three in his first term in England was an impressive feat, however, with the talent on show at City, the timing wasn’t right for the Spaniard to exercise and develop his talents.

Similar has happened at Barcelona, where the 23-year-old started just 14 La Liga games due to competition in the squad, however patterns have also continued in his scoring, averaging 0.39 non-penalty goals per 90 over the past year, via FBref.

His numbers with reference to his playing minutes show for pleasant viewing, and indicate the calibre of player Emery could sign this summer, with him being statistically similar to a Premier League star.

As per FBref, Torres is comparable to Manchester United's Player of the Year Marcus Rashford, who scored 17 goals in the league last season.

In the Premier League, the Englishman averaged an impressive 3.38 total shots per 90, as well as recording 1.69 successful take-ons per 90 to express his devastating quality in the final third.

Similar numbers were hit by Torres in La Liga last campaign, who averaged 2.39 total shots and 1.94 successful take-ons per 90, as well as averaging 0.27 xAG (expected assisted goals) to Rashfords 0.11 per 90, via FBref.

An area of his game that could be beneficial to Emery’s side’s progressive approach is his positioning to receive a pass to turn into a threat, with the Spaniard averaging a huge 11.64 progressive passes received, in comparison to Rashford’s 7.66 per 90.

If given sufficient game time and a licence to develop, Villa could have a leading young talent in Europe in Torres, should a deal be struck this summer.

'I won't be caught cold on Ashes return' – Root

Joe Root admits he was shocked by his first experience of Test cricket in Australia but has promised he will be much better prepared when England return for the Ashes at the end of the year

Taylor tips Root to thrive as captain

Joe Root admits he was shocked by his first experience of Test cricket in Australia but has promised he will be much better prepared when England return for the Ashes at the end of the year.Root, England’s newly appointed Test captain, went to Australia in 2013-14 as a 22-year-old with a growing reputation as England’s finest young batsman. But by the end of the series he had been dropped, England had been defeated 5-0 and he concedes he was “caught cold” by the hostility of the experience.Greeted by abusive crowds, even more abusive opponents and an excellent fast-bowling attack led by Mitchell Johnson, Australia provided a far from gentle welcome. And while Root managed 87 in the second innings in Adelaide, it was the only time he reached 30 and he was dropped, with a series average of 27.42, after the fourth Test.”That first Test match at Brisbane, when I walked out to bat, I think it did it hit me quite hard,” Root said. “It was like I walked into a conservatory door: I was not aware at all that it was there.”For large periods of that trip, I was spending my time and energy working on things that other people said I needed to work on; getting forward; a bigger stride; getting into the ball. But in reality, they were bowling 95mph bouncers, so it was pointless.”But I will be slightly more aware this time. I won’t be caught cold. I know what to expect from what can be quite a hostile environment.”Root is determined that other young players – and Haseeb Hameed would appear to be a prime example – should not be similarly exposed this time.Joe Root: “I won’t be caught cold in Australia”•BRUT Sport Style

“I think it’s very important that the guys that haven’t been there get a good idea of what it can be like,” he said. “They shouldn’t be afraid of it. They should try to embrace it and enjoy it. It’s not always easy to enjoy it, but that tour is a great opportunity for this team.”I think I’ve done all my learning from that tour already. I came back from it and thought: just strengthen all the things that have served you very well for long periods of time and slowly but surely work on the rest of it. From that I gained a lot of confidence. It was a really good way, from being in quite a difficult spot, of feeling good again.”If England are to win in Australia, Root knows that he will have to score heavily. So, odd though it may sound, he says the piece of advice he has most taken to heart since he became captain, is to ensure his own game is in order.”I’ve had a lot of people provide quite similar advice,” he said. “But the one thing that’s really stuck out is ‘just make sure you look after your own game and concentrate on scoring as many runs as possible.'”That might come across as quite selfish. But I think it’s going to be very important for me, mentally as well, to put in the work and set the right example when the opportunities arise.”He doesn’t have to look far to find examples of talented young batsmen who appear to have thrived with the responsibility of leadership. Steve Smith, in particular, has batted exceptionally well in recent times, with Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson also highly impressive.”They are great examples of taking that responsibility and making it a real asset to their games,” Root said. “It’s a good opportunity for me to do exactly the same. Over the last couple of years my consistency has been fantastic. But between 50 and 100 there have been far too many occasions when I have got out.”On a few occasions I have been got out, but the majority of the time it has been a lapse of concentration and that’s not good enough. I’m going to have to make sure that moving forward I set a really good example by going on and trying to make sure I make the most of those good starts and be a little bit more ruthless.”In the past, the more responsibility I’ve been given, I’ve generally responded well to it. Hopefully that will be the same.”Root has enjoyed success in home Ashes series, but his maiden tour of Australia was another story•Getty Images

Root is also confident that, while his England will play tough cricket – “There have occasions in the past when we probably have folded a little too easily,” he admitted – they will be able to retain good relationships with their opponents.”I don’t think there was too much bad blood in our series against India,” he said. “There were a few of our guys who were quite passionate and vocal and Virat and a few of his guys were the same. If you understand and respect that and you don’t take it too far and make it personal then I don’t know what the issue is.”There’s nothing wrong with going and having a beer after the game. It is quite nice actually, if someone has really laid into you for five weeks and then you go up to them with a beer and make them feel really uncomfortable. It’s quite good when you can ask them some difficult questions like ‘how’s the missus? How’s the kids?’ And see how they respond to it.”It is good that we are open to that as a side and hopefully other teams are as well.”Joe Root and James Anderson were speaking on behalf of BRUT Sport Style, the new fragrance from men’s grooming brand BRUT

Perth Stadium scratched from Ashes

The Western Australia government confirmed the stadium would not be completed in time for the third Ashes Test between Australia and England in mid-December

‘Disappointing that the new Perth stadium will be not be completed in time for the Ashes Test’ – Sutherland

Perth’s new stadium will not host an Ashes Test this summer and may miss the 2017-18 cricket season altogether after the West Australian government confirmed there was no chance of the project being completed in time for the third match between Australia and England in mid-December.Having expressed optimism about the Ashes Test being held at the stadium as recently as Monday, the Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland admitted disappointment at being told that such a scenario had little basis in reality when meeting with WA government ministers and stadium management in Perth on Tuesday.”Well I guess it’s good now we have some certainty around where the Perth Test match is going to be played this year as part of the Ashes series,” Sutherland said in Perth. “It’ll be played here at the WACA Ground across the river. We received advice yesterday in meetings with government, [WACA CEO] Christina Matthews, [WACA president] Ken Michael and myself received the news that the new Perth Stadium wouldn’t be ready for the Ashes Test match.”Coming over here to Perth on this trip, we did know that it needed to be finished ahead of time and everything needed to come together, but it was still disappointing. We were really hoping that the Test match could be played at this magnificent new stadium. Nonetheless there’s lots to look forward to, with tickets to go on sale very shortly.”In contrast to CA’s hopes for the stadium to host an Ashes Test, or at very least the ODI between Australia and England on January 28 next year, the state government could only confirm the venue will be ready in time for an Ed Sheeran concert to be played in early March ahead of next year’s AFL season. Either way, the WACA Ground looks set to host not only the Ashes match but also the BBL and WBBL fixtures for the Perth Scorchers.”The meetings we had yesterday led us to believe it is still a very strong chance that the ODI on Sunday the 28th of January next year will be played at the new Perth Stadium,” Sutherland said. “I was very fortunate to have a tour of the new stadium yesterday and it really is exciting to see an absolutely brilliant, state-of-the-art sporting stadium – Perth fans don’t yet know what they have been missing out on.”At this stage the way the timing works it’s probably unlikely that any of the Big Bash League or Women’s Big Bash League matches will be played at the new stadium. There is a slight chance that if we get to finals time that the final could be played at the new Perth Stadium, and we know West Australians like to think the final’s played in Perth every year, but let’s wait and see with that. It certainly would be wonderful.”The stadium has been subject to numerous construction delays in recent months, largely related to a footbridge to be erected across the Swan River, easing access from Perth’s CBD to the Burswood location of the venue. WA recently voted out the Liberal government of Colin Barnett, leaving the endgame in the hands of Labor.”The idea of an Ashes Test opening the Perth Stadium was only ever a Colin Barnett thought bubble. The scheduled opening has always been the start of the 2018 AFL season and that is what we’re working towards,” the WA sport and recreation minister Mick Murray said.”Hosting the Ashes Test at the new stadium would have been a spectacle, but unfortunately it’s just not possible and the State Government is now working to correct the problems we have inherited. Confirmation of the Ed Sheeran concert in March 2018, just ahead of the first AFL match is a fantastic outcome for Western Australians, and we will continue to investigate the possibility of earlier events.”

Everton: Transfer insider reveals big Pickford update he’s "hearing"

Everton have made the trio of Jordan Pickford, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Alex Iwobi untouchable this window according to Dean Jones.

The Toffees are hoping to bounce back after a couple of disappointing campaigns.

What is the latest Everton transfer news?

The Toffees are in the midst of one of the most important summer transfer windows in their recent history, as they hope to build a squad to avoid a relegation battle next season.

The club has already made their first signing, with experienced Englishman Ashley Young joining on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Aston Villa. Reports have also stated that the side is looking to add another forward, with Marca stating that the Toffees had seen an offer rejected by Almeria for striker El Bilal Toure, whilst Leeds United have rebuffed a £15m offer for Italian youngster Wilfred Gnonto according to the Mail.

Sean Dyche's side have also explored a deal for Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga according to Fabrizio Romano. The Swedish youngster has attracted the interest of many clubs but the Toffees are favorites as it stands, with the deal reportedly set to cost between £8-10m.

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

In terms of outgoings, Belgian midfielder Amadou Onana has been linked with a move to fellow Premier League side West Ham United. The Hammers recently sold captain and star midfielder Declan Rice for a record £105m fee and are looking to potentially replace him with Onana. The midfielder turned down a potential move to West Ham in the summer of 2022 in favour of a move to Goodison Park, but now could make the switch to the London Stadium for a fee in the region of £50m.

However, according to journalist Jones, Everton have made three players untouchable this summer, with the club not wanting to lose the "instrumental" figures this summer, as he stated whilst talking to Give Me Sport: "There has been plenty of speculation around Everton and who they will sell to raise funds this summer and a lot has been made of Jordan Pickford potentially being the one that brings in a lot of cash. That actually goes against what I am hearing on the situation now that we are here in the middle of the transfer window and heading towards the new season. Pickford is not available for transfer, it seems a pretty clear stance from what I’m hearing.

Obviously, he and Calvert-Lewin are the two big names in that team that could make the jump up to a team playing in Europe, but I don’t see it happening as things stand. The same goes for Alex Iwobi to be honest, he is one they want as an instrumental figure in the team and while there have been a couple of reports suggesting he will be available in this window, I do not believe that to be the case.”

Will Everton sell those players?

Despite the club's stance, should they receive a massive offer for any of those players, they could depart Goodison Park this summer.

Jordan Pickford has been the subject of interest from a number of top sides throughout this summer from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, however both sides seem to have opted for different targets for between the sticks, and Everton have stuck a £70m price tag on the England number one's head this summer.

Everton's Jordan Pickford

Calvert-Lewin has battled with injury problems for the past couple of seasons, however, he was the subject of Arsenal interest this year according to reports, and should he be able to maintain his fitness, could easily attract that level of interest again.

Iwobi enjoyed his finest season last campaign since his move from Arsenal in the summer of 2019, and has reportedly attracted the interest of Premier League clubs West Ham and Fulham, as well as from Italian giants Inter Milan regarding a potential move this summer.

It remains to be seen whether the trio will still be on Merseyside for the club's first game of the season at home against Fulham.

Man United Interested In £900k-p/w Forward

Manchester United are still interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe, with his future up in the air.

Could Man United sign Kylian Mbappe?

The Red Devils and Erik ten Hag are after a new forward this summer after securing moves for Mason Mount and Andre Onana from Chelsea and Inter Milan respectively.

Anthony Martial is reportedly up for sale, which could leave United with no recognised centre-forward heading into the new season, should the United man depart. Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani have both been linked with moves to Manchester and talks have been held over the pair.

However, previously, Mbappe has also been linked with a sensational move to Old Trafford, with potential new owner Sheikh Jassim feeling the France international belongs at Old Trafford. The Qatar group were thought to be planning a swoop for the PSG star if they completed a takeover, but as we know, there has been no real progress in recent months in regards to taking full control from the Glazers.

However, when it comes to Mbappe, it looks as if a PSG exit is on the cards this summer, with the player informing the club he would not take up the option of a one-year contract extension next summer and is now up for sale. Mbappe has even been left out of the club’s pre-season tour of Japan, and it looks as if United are still keen.

Reliable Spanish outlet Marca provided an update on Mbappe’s future in the last 48 hours, amid interest from Real Madrid, who he wants to join. They claimed that “an important offer from Saudi Arabia” is about to arrive for the forward.

Three sides in the Premier League are also keen, one of which are Man United. It is believed that the Red Devils are interested in Mbappe, regardless of whether or not a Qatar takeover at Old Trafford materialises.

kylian-mbappe-psg-arsenal-transfer-gossip-arteta-edu-thierry-henry

How much could Kylian Mbappe cost?

Mbappe, hailed as "unstoppable" in the media, is thought to be on £900,000-a-week and was valued at £170m when the Red Devils were linked with a move for the 24-year-old earlier this year.

However, reports previously suggested that United’s summer budget stood at around £100m this summer, a figure which they have already surpassed with a £60m move for Mount and £47m deal for Onana.

Therefore, you’d expect that a move could be extremely difficult for those at Old Trafford to complete, especially if Jassim and co fail to seal a takeover relatively soon. However, Mbappe could be a game-changing signing in Manchester, helping to take Ten Hag's side to the next level.

The France international, who has scored at Old Trafford in the Champions League, has netted 212 goals and provided 98 assists for PSG in 260 games, showing how he could be the missing piece of the jigsaw in the final third.

United may not be able to compete with the likes of Real Madrid or sides from Saudi Arabia financially, but by the looks of things, the Red Devils are still looking at a potential move, making it one to watch.
