Wilfried Gnonto's ongoing omission from the Leeds United side was perhaps one reason why the fanbase quickly turned against Javi Gracia.

The Spaniard was sacked by the Yorkshire outfit following the 4-1 defeat against relegation rivals Bournemouth last weekend which leaves the club hovering just above the bottom three in the Premier League.

While Leeds' main problems were in the defence, Gracia was often criticised for his failure to start Gnonto in the games following the international break, with the Italian starting just three times in the Premier League under the former Watford boss.

Indeed, speaking on the situation after the youngster failed to feature against Leicester, former Leeds man Jermaine Beckford said: "He’s one of those players that as soon as he picks the ball up he’s so direct but his close control, such focus, such passion and the drive – the fans buzz off that sort of stuff. That’s what you need, especially when you’re at home.

Skilful wingers such as Jay-Jay Okocha and Gary Speed played a huge part for Allardyce during his time at Bolton, making 265 appearances between them, and if he utilises his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation again at Leeds, then Gnonto could prosper out wide.

The Italy international has been limited to just 20 appearances in the Premier League so far this term but only Harrison and Rodrigo have contributed to more goals, which suggests that he was under-used by Gracia and could still have a big say under Allardyce.

Michael Skubala certainly thinks that Gnonto is a "special" talent and the £20k-per-week winger could prove to be exactly that in the remaining four games if Allardyce sticks to his word and starts him.

He said: ‘We trust you, and we want you to bat at six and see how it goes’. I wanted to give something back to the team, and show that I was good batting at No.6.”Having arrived late on the first day at 236 for 4, Ashwin saw out a tricky phase with Kohli and took India to 302 for 4 at stumps.Ashwin then unfurled his array of strokes on the second day, the highlight being a straight back-foot punch off West Indies captain Jason Holder. But when Shannon Gabriel, West Indies’ best bowler in the game, posed questions outside off stump with away movement or the lack of it, Ashwin was prepared to grind him down. It was very slow and sluggish, and so we needed to keep a tab on the pace, and use the drift pretty well.”Ashwin also lauded coach Anil Kumble for his inputs during the course of the match. “In the second innings, I was constantly in touch with Anil bhai also about what is that right speeds to be bowling,” Ashwin said. “We were constantly in touch through different occasions of the game. I went wicketless for the first 25-26 overs I bowled in the match, and in the past it would have definitely troubled me. I am someone who likes to keep getting wickets. I kept on speaking to him about what I was doing right and what I was not doing right. He felt my body was not going through well yesterday because I was a little tired. Also, he told I had to slow down at the crease, gave me different ideas about what lines to bowl to batsmen.”

Leeds United are seemingly already looking towards a brighter future, given their present is as bleak as can be.

Their recent loss to West Ham United has condemned them to a miserable final day of the Premier League season, where they know that only a win by three or more goals against Tottenham Hotspur can give them a slim chance of survival.

Across 24 appearances in the league, many of which have been in both offensive and defensive roles, the tricky maestro boasts eight goals and four assists.

With such dominance at youth level, and an apparent ball control far beyond those around him, it is no surprise to see that one talent scout suggested he "resembles [Kevin] De Bruyne". Indeed, it is impossible not to liken Breckin to another star who Pep Guardiola has nurtured too: Phil Foden.

With 14 goals and eight assists this season across all competitions this season, which could still merit a famous treble, the Stockport-born 22-year-old has risen from the academy to become one of the most influential figures for the Citizens.

The former Barcelona boss even claimed back in 2021: "I have said many times in press conferences, but maybe not said it in front of him, Phil is the most, most, most talented player I have ever seen in my career as a manager."

However, in his final full season for the U21s, he would record six goals and five assists from attacking midfield; not a far cry from Breckin's output this campaign.

By securing such an extraordinary youngster now, with the promise that first-team football is far more likely to arrive at Elland Road than the Etihad, perhaps Radrizzani could be set to claim his own Foden to spearhead this aforementioned brighter future.
